Sorority Rush Week is an exciting and transformative experience, where you will prepare to join a sisterhood and create lifelong connections and friendships. Rush Week, also known as Recruitment Week, normally occurs twice during the school year. Once at the beginning of the school year in August/September and then again during January/February. There are multiple "rounds" during Rush Week that you should be aware of. These include Open House, Philanthropy Day, Sisterhood Round, Preference Night, and Bid Day. Dressing appropriately for each round can make a significant impact. Don't stress, because Estelle's is here to guide you through the fashion choices that will help you make a lasting impression on potential sororities! Read on as we share our outfit choices for each round of rush.
Round 1: Open House
The Open House Round is the most casual round of recruitment, but you still want to dress to impress! During this round, you'll be visiting all of the sorority houses. Since you'll be doing a lot of walking, comfortable shoes are a must. We recommend these comfy, yet dressy, sandals from Chinese Laundry. Paired with a cute dress, clutch, and necklace, you can't go wrong with this chic and put-together look!
Round 2: Philanthropy Day
This round is when you'll learn all about the various charitable activities and causes supported by each sorority. We recommend a "smart-casual" look for this round. A dressy blouse paired with trousers and low heels are perfect for Philanthropy Day. Often times, you will receive a t-shirt to wear on this day and you will match every other Potential New Member, so cute accessories and shoes are a must if you want to stand out!
Round 3: Sisterhood ROund
Outfits tend to become more dressy at this point of rush, because now you are closer to the end of recruitment and closer to finding where you belong! During Sisterhood Round, you will spend more time at the houses and you will have longer conversations with the sisters as you get to know them on a deeper level. We recommend wearing low heels, statement earrings, and a classy but casual dress.
Round 4: Preference Night
This is the most formal round of recruitment, as it is the last round before Bid Day, so it's your last chance to make a lasting impression! On Pref Night, you will spend time at your final picks for your Greek House while you learn about the sororities values and traditions and get to emphasize your interest in the chapter you want to join. For this round, you can't go wrong with a black dress. You will want to wear heels for this round as well.
Round 5: BID DAY!
Congrats! You made it to Bid Day! This is a celebratory event where you will officially receive your bid to join a sorority. On Bid Day, you will receive a shirt to wear, and it's best to wear sneakers and shorts/jeans since it's a fun-filled day of activities. Make sure to bring a small bag to keep essential items in such as water, your phone, etc.
